Albert A. Sturdivant Chairman & Co-Chief Investment Officer

Al Sturdivant is the Managing Member of the Private Wealth Management group of Legacy Investment Advisors, LLC, a successor company of Sturdivant & Company. In this capacity, Al develops and manages strategic and tactical asset allocation strategies for clients, enhanced by his extensive experience in security analysis and investment research.

At Legacy, Al provides the following services:

  • Sector and Industry Analysis Security Selection
  • Tax-Free and Tax-Advantaged Money Management
  • Oversight of the Investment Policy Committee
  • Managing Proprietary Investment Strategies (Large Cap Value and Balanced)

Al began his career as a Chemical Industry Analyst/Vice President for Butcher & Singer. He went on to become an Associate, Mergers &Acquisitions, Booz, Allen & Hamilton. Subsequently, he was recognized as a member of Institutional Investor All-Star research team as a Chemical Industry Analyst for First Boston Corp.

Al received a Bachelor of Science degree cum laude in mathematics from Morgan State University and an MBA in Finance from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. He holds the Series 7, 24 and 53 securities designations.

In his spare time, Al is an avid golfer and collector of African American Art. He resides in Danville, New Jersey with his wife Barbara.

Whitney H. Reid, CFA EVP / Chief Market Strategist & Co-CIO

Specialization: Investment Management

Years in Financial Services: 15 yrs

Whitney manages the firm’s investment activities including investment policy definition and directing the activities of the investment staff. Mr. Reid received a bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University and a master of science degree in Business Administration from Boston University.

Prior to joining Sturdivant & Co., Mr. Reid served as a research analyst for Delaware Investments’ Private Placements Group, focused on technology, healthcare, building products and financial companies. Prior to joining Delaware Investments, Mr. Reid served as the City Treasurer for the City of Philadelphia. Prior to serving as City Treasurer, Mr. Reid served a Senior Investment Officer for the City of Philadelphia Municipal Employees Retirement System. As Senior Investment Officer, in addition to managing over twenty external equity and fixed income managers.

Mr. Reid managed the securities lending and commission recapture programs, in addition to the Stable Value Fund for the City’s Deferred Compensation Plan. Prior to joining the City of Philadelphia, he served as a Consultant in Public Financial Management’s structured products group, where he was responsible for structuring and procuring derivative products.

Mr. Reid entered the financial industry in 1994 after serving five years in the U.S. Army. Mr. Reid is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Philadelphia.


Trading/Operations


Debra Bailey  Trading/Operations

Ms. Bailey is a member of Sturdivant & Co.’s trading team. She joined the firm in 1999 and her responsibilities include trading and research support. Prior to joining Sturdivant, Ms. Bailey was a Senior Trading Associate at Penn Capital Management, an investment management firm in New Jersey. She was responsible for trading fixed income securities including treasuries and municipal bonds. She also assisted in the back office operations. Ms. Bailey earned her B.A. in Economics from Rutgers University and she holds Series 7 and 63 FINRA securities licenses.
